by Ashley Poston. I became interested in the glut of retellings on the market in 2017. So many were hyped and I hadn’t read any of them. This is one that I saw ALL over the place. My blogger friend Haley @ Fangirl Fury highly suggested it!

“-Elle, we might not know much about each other, and I might not be there, and you might not be here, but I’m glad I share this sky with you.
-Maybe we should start looking up together, ah’blena”

by Becky Chambers. I was really amped to read this but slowly lost the excitement as the year passed. On goodreads I can’t believe how many LOVE IT!! It’s totally character driven sci-fi and diverse with lots of relationships! I don’t know why I lost interest so I’m giving it a go in 2018!

“Ninety percent of all problems are caused by people being assholes.”
“What causes the other ten percent?” asked Kizzy.
“Natural disasters,” said Nib.”

by Erin Morgenstern. I was rather clueless about magical realism when I first heard about this book. Now that I see that term being tossed around more and more I’ve become super excited to see if the hype is worth it!

“You may tell a tale that takes up residence in someone’s soul, becomes their blood and self and purpose. That tale will move them and drive them and who knows that they might do because of it, because of your words. That is your role, your gift.”

by F.C. Yee. Based on Chinese folklore I first saw this book as a book tour offering. When the reviews started to roll in I kicked myself for NOT reading it. I LOVE Asian culture and was obviously having an off day when I deleted that email!

“This is bull crap!” I shouted. “I’m tired! I don’t have the energy for this!”

“Genie,” Quentin said. “Please stop telling the swarm of yaoguai how weak you are right now.”

“I don’t want to deal with you!” I hollered at the demons from afar. “Screw everything! Evil wins, are you happy?”

by Louise Gornall. OCD is a mental illness I LOVE to read about it as I have the lesser form of it. AND I’ve not read about agoraphobia so I love that this is an #OWNvoices story!!

“Beauty comes from how you treat people and how you behave. But if a little lipstick makes you smile, then you should wear it and forget what anyone else thinks.”

by Susan Dennard. This series is a long running series (6 slated books) so I feel like I have time but it’s also said to have some incredible magic and fighting, which is hot, hot, hot for me. I want to be MORE than ready to get an ARC for book 3 at the end of the year!!

“I hate this. Both the storm and the plan. Why does it have to be ‘we’? Why not just me?”
“Because ‘just me’ isn’t who we are,” Iseult hollered back. “I’ll always follow you, Safi, and you’ll always follow me. Threadsisters to the end.”

by Catherine Fisher. Sometimes I wonder if I’ve built this dystopia up too big in my mind. I first heart about it in 2012 and have it lingering on my mind but never get to it… It is literally my most anticipated and oldest book on my to-read shelf. This is the year I finally read it!

“The world is a chessboard, Madam, on which we play out our ploys and follies. You are the Queen, of course. Your moves are the strongest. For myself, I claim only to be a knight, advancing in a crooked progress. Do we move ourselves, do you think, or does a great gloved hand place on our squares.”

Why do you anticipate a book? Author, premise, tropes?

I have my favorite genres that I will look into a book if it falls in it. The premise has to really kill it though. I want to be intrigued and feel an urge to read more. Authors are great and I will take notice of them but only as the quality. Do the quotes intrigue you?!

Thanks for Reading XOXO

  1. I need to read a few of these myself! The Night Circus has been sitting on my shelves for AGES! I read Truthwitch – liked it but didn’t love it for a number of reasons! Really enjoyed Under Rose-Tainted Skies though!!

Awesome choices, feel free to check out my TTT list 🙂

  2. Great List! 🙂 The Forbidden Wish is on my TBR for this month, so I’ll get to it soon 🙂 Truthwitch is so so amazing, one of my favorite Series of all time – the worldbuilding and characters are A+ 😍 Under Rose-Tainted Skies is amazing as well 🙂

  3. The Night Circus!!! That one was a nice surprise for me. 😀 Also look forward to The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet!!! You might push me into trying it much earlier than expected if you end up loving it this year. 😀

  4. The Epic Crush of Genie Lo is the first book I read this year. It’s so good!! Really hope you like it when you get to it cause it’s so funny and Genie is such a well written character.

  5. Ahhh Geekerella and The Forbidden Wish are both SO amazing, I can’t wait for you to read them! ❤ And I'm with you on Starfish and Under the Rose-Tainted Skies; definitely want to read those as well. They sound so good! 🙂 Great list, I love the quotes you chose for each book. I hope you enjoy these books when you get around to them!

  6. Sigh…. another list of great-sounding books I haven’t even touched yet. 😦
Ever wish you could just clone yourself? One of you could go around doing the boring stuff you have to do, and the other could sit on the couch and read. Someday I’ll figure out a way to make it happen.

  7. I highly suggest Geekerella as well! Such a cute cinnamon role of a book ❤ As for the rest, I'm DYING to read most of these myself 🙂 8, 7, 6, 3 and 1 especially!
Hope you have a magnificent 2018, Dani ^_^ And get to read all of these very soon!

    1. You were probably another that I was influenced to read Geekerella, I remember reading a review by you (right?! I have the memory of a pea 😅) ♥️ I’m actually reading Genie Lo right now… and it is soooo good, literally from the first chapter! Happy 2018 reading to you too Sophie!
