What inspired you to write about aliens?

Ashley Graham: I love science fiction—especially when there are extra-terrestrial elements—and incorporated things I enjoy reading in my story. Also, I wrote the kind of book that teen me wanted to read but couldn’t find!

What lead to you including such a range of diversity in your characters?

Ashley Graham: To be honest, I didn’t sit down and consciously decide to add diverse characters to All the Stars Left Behind. The characters developed organically as I wrote, and just like in the real world, diversity isn’t a plot device. It’s a fact of life. I am proud to have written a book with such a diverse cast of characters though!

Was it important to you that the science be realistic and how did you go about developing it so believably?

Ashley Graham: First of all, I’m no astro-physicist! I wanted the tech to be plausible so I created a propulsion system for Equinox that could someday exist. Watch any space program and they’ll talk about dark matter…and the energy potential it possesses. Everything else I made up on the fly or borrowed similar ideas from movies/shows I’ve watched in the past.

Relocating to Arctic Norway would put a freeze on anyone’s social life. For Leda Lindgren, with her crutches and a chip on her shoulder the size of her former Manhattan home, the frozen tundra is just as boring as it sounds. Until she meets her uncle’s gorgeous employee.

Unfortunately, no matter how smoking hot the guy is, Roar comes with secrets as unnerving as his moving tattoos. And Leda doesn’t trust him.

Roar shouldn’t be drawn to the moody human girl with eyes that leave him weak in the knees. But when Leda gets shot by one of his enemies and survives, Roar finally understands why he’s drawn to her: Leda is exactly what he was sent to Earth to find. A weapon of immense power capable of saving his planet.

She just doesn’t know it yet.
