Memes and Tags, This Week's Appreciation

This Week’s Appreciation #3

This is the third week for my new meme to share blogger news and love… it was so difficult to just pick three posts to highlight! There were so many good discussion posts especially…

This Week’s Appreciation is a weekly meme I host on Saturday morning. For each post I’ve pull three things from the blog posts that I read over the previous week. It’s a fun way to showcase blogs I follow and share the love! Feel free to participate…

“A Disturbing Trend”

From Bentley @ Book ★ Bastion, a guy passionate about books. He wrote a discussion post about rating on Goodreads that he stated he felt would be an unpopular opinion. I believe he was overwhelmed by the support he had. The thrust of the post is summed up well in this line: “It seems that every month or so there’s another new book that the community is hating on and maliciously demolishing its average score.” It was a really timely post to me as I too had an experience on Goodreads where a reviewer posted a link to another girl’s review in place of her review stating that it was why she wouldn’t be reading the book and why she was giving a low score. You may have already weighed in… have you had any experiences where others trash a book they haven’t read?

Sharing a Personal Journey

From Drew @ The Tattooed Book Geek where he is all about books plus shares his own poetry. This week he shared the personal journey he has taken through depression. It was a really brave and comprehensive look at the debilitating mood disorder. His experiences with depression hit home to me as someone who also struggles with such feelings… you really need to head over there and read it yourself but here is a little taste: “Looks can be deceiving, a smile is easy to fake, it’s so simple, it’s the eyes that show the pain, anyone can fake a smile to pretend their OK, you need to look deeper, a smile can lie but the eyes. … I lied so many times and do you know what the worst of it is?! I’ll tell you, it’s not lying to the people who have asked, it’s lying to yourself, trying to fool yourself and succeeding into believing that everything is alright when it’s not.”

A New Meme: Fangirling

From Jackie @ Too Much of a Book Nerd who is an English Major from Germany where she shares her huge love for books with the world. As a fellow meme creator I was excited to see what she had come up with: Fierce Fangirl Friday. “So, whenever you have something, anything to fangirl about – whether it be a book, TV show, music, celebrities, your pet, the universe, finding your soulmate or just a recent meal that you’ve had – Fierce Fangirl Friday is your opportunity to do so! It doesn’t matter if it’s a recent obsession of yours or something you’ve been loving for a while!” Such a good idea! You need to check it out if you fangirl about anything… The funny thing was that Mandy @ Book Princess Reviews wrote her own fangirl post about a new book about Sasquatch hunters… I love it when a book lover finds their match…

That’s it for week #3’s edition of This Week’s Appreciation… How do you feel about Goodreads ratings? Do you know someone who experiences depression? Do you love to fangirl? Please check out these blogs, they are wonderful!
